MLCT 2660 - Predator/Prey: Dangerous Liasons 4 Semester Hours We can learn a great deal about modern-day sexual predators from Laclos’ 1782 letter-novel focusing on 18th century French aristocratic behavior. The situation of upper middleclass French women and French female aristocrats make them easy victims. Students identify and analyze strategies the main characters use to control and manipulate their prey. Throughout the semester, students develop pathways, responses, and counter-strategies to disempower predators, strategies useful to the 21st century American reader learning about 18th century French aristocratic behavior.
