    Students minoring in Vocation, Ethics,; Society enroll in VESO 3851 (Vocational Inquiry in Context I) concurrently with their first internship (VESO 3853 ) Depending on enrollment numbers, VESO 3851 may meet with VESO 4851  allowing students to converse with; offer insights for one another at various stages of their vocational inquiry In these courses, students discuss their internship experiences; contextualize them by using academic resources offered by the instructor, according to the instructor’s field of study

    This course introduces students to the major artists, artworks,; themes of Latin American art history from 1930 to the present day, with an emphasis on experimental practices following WWII We will engage with the global interconnectedness of art from Latin America in ways that reveal how histories of colonization, modernization, revolution, dictatorship, social movements, immigration,; uneven economic relations have influenced stylistic developments While art from the region will be the primary vector of our exploration, the intersections of gender, race, class,; sexuality will regularly factor into course content, readings,; class discussions

    This course is designed to prepare prospective peer consultants to work in the Writing Center It will introduce them to the writing process on a theoretical as well as practical level,; to theoretical; practical components of Writing Center work Specific topics will include the role of the peer consultant, the rhetorical situation, types of academic writing, cultural perspectives,; approaches to talking about writing at various stages of the writing process

    1 Semester Hours
    This course examines the theoretical; practical components of Writing Center work, paying particular attention to their reflective nature, that is, to the ways in which theories of collaborative learning challenge; extend Writing Center practice; the ways in which Writing Center practice interrogates; shapes Writing Center theory The course will also further introduce students to aspects of Writing Center administration, particularly the task of marketing the Writing Center on the Millsaps campus Specific topics will include recent critiques of collaborative learning, approaches to consultation, consultant roles, the role of grammar instruction in the Writing Center, consulting strategies for ESL students,; the use of computers in the Writing Center
