RLST 2760 - Modern China: State, Society, & Religion

Through an analysis of changing political structures; their effects on Chinese society, this course explores the social, political, religious,;, economic developments in the last hundred years in China The course will also examine the effects of modernization on Chinese society, ethnic minorities, religious communities,; the daily lives of Chinese people Students will engage key issues in the formation of modern China including rebellions, revolutions, urbanization, migration, international relations, nationalism,; government structure The course is discussion-based,; it will be supplemented by lectures, presentations,; visuals No knowledge of Chinese is required,; all readings will be in English
